It is traditional for people to send out their invites around 3 months before the big day, though this does vary depending on the couple and type of event taking place. You should ensure you allow time ahead of this for your order to be ready (which will take another 6-8 weeks). Therefore we usually advise couples to order their stationery 5/6 months in advance of their big day.

If you are concerned that people may not be able to attend due to prior engagements then Save the Date cards or our new magnets available for all our collections are a really lovely way of letting people know to keep that date free well in advance of sending invites.

Firstly, draw up a list of everyone you would like to invite, bearing in mind that typically around 20% may not be able to attend. For this reason it is a good idea to have a reserve list of people you would like to invite if others drop out.

Bear in mind you will only need to send out 1 invite per family (though you may want to consider sending separate invites for grown up family members), and per couple, though if you have a lot of single guests this will increase the numbers you may need. It is also a good idea to order 5-10 extra for mistakes, and last minute guests you may have forgotten. You may also want to keep one in pristine condition for a keepsake yourself so it’s a good idea to keep this in mind overlooked! As a rule though you will usually find that per guests people you would need around half as many invites plus spares just in case...

Also consider ordering seperate evening invites for those guests you are unable to invite to the service but would still love to be a part of the celebrations.

Wording for invitations can seem like a real headache as it is tied up with so much etiquette from days gone by that can be a little daunting.
